Ralph B. Matthews

Ralph Benjamin Matthews, son of the late Frank Evenoton and Violet Viola Matthews was born in Trinidad and Tobago on March 6, 1948. A chapter completed, a page turned, a life well lived and a rest well earned. On Thursday, January 8, 2026, Ralph departed this life after a long illness. His brothers, Ian and Michael and sisters, Norva and Val, preceded him in death.

Ralph was a big jokester who loved to laugh with friends and family. He loved playing games and doing activities. He would often be found doing word puzzles, playing dominoes, and he enjoyed playing the harmonica. Ralph was a social butterfly as he was always making friends and chatting with new people.

He was employed at VCU Hospital in the Housekeeping area.

Ralph is survived by 7 children (Lauren, Chantel, Lizel, LaTanya, Rafael, Little Ralph and Ruby); 2 brothers (Paul and Emerson); 2 sisters (Lorna and Marlene); 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and sister-in-law Cynthia.

He also leaves to cherish his memories, nieces: Sherma, Rhonda, Roslyn, Karen, Roma, Kathy-Ann, Maria, Karlene (deceased), Natalie, Nadene, Crystal-Anne; nephews: Brent, Derrick, Rawel (deceased), Darren, Gavin, Nolan, and Christopher; devoted best friend, Robert Robertson; and the Yearwood family members.
