Matilda Wilson

Mrs. Matilda Florence Imogene Wilson, age 100, was born in Georgetown, Guyana, on September 3, 1925, to parents Matilda Waithe Skeete and Henry Adolphus Skeete. Matilda peacefully departed this life on February 3, 2026, surrounded by her family in Richmond, Virginia.

Matilda was united in marriage to Mr. Leonard Alexander Wilson on April 21, 1945, and they shared 71 years of devoted matrimony until his passing in 2017. From this union, they welcomed thirteen children, many of whom are left to cherish her memories: Lynette (Edward), Vernon (Clarice), Janice, Hilton (Ismay), Marva, Ivan ( Janet), Grace, Esther (George), Annette, Florie, Clem (Shelly), and Carl (Dawne). Also cherishing her memories are 36 and counting grandchildren, 50 and counting great-grandchildren, and
great-great grandchildren.

Matilda began her spiritual journey from a young age as a child in the Anglican Church and later became a dedicated member of Kitty Baptist Church in Georgetown, Guyana.
A devoted Christian, Matilda lived a life marked by strong faith, unending service, and complete unwavering love for her family, friends, and church community. One of her many philosophies in life was “Godliness with contentment is great gain” (I Timothy 6:6).

As a homemaker, Matilda nurtured her household with compassion, grace, humor, strength, and generosity. She worked in the home as a seamstress sewing clothes for her children, cooking, cleaning, and numerous other household activities. Matilda especially enjoyed singing hymns and reading her bible. Her legacy continues in the many lives she touched, and the family and friends whom she cherished. Matilda was loved and admired by everyone she encountered during her lifetime. Matilda was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leonard, son Armond and her siblings Sonny, Egretta, Edna, and Cyril.

Matilda, affectionately known as “granny”, will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
